Up until now, all of the plush sewing patterns I had available for free (sewdesune.deviantart.com/galle…) and for sale (www.etsy.com/shop/CholyKnight?…) assumed you have basic sewing knowledge. But I get so many beginning sewers trying out my patterns it only seems fair to create more tutorials on sewing basics -- particularly for plushies. So that's what this is :) I hope to keep making more and incorporate them into my patterns from now on so they'll be even more beginner-friendly.

This one covers some basic steps for cutting from plush fabric. The fabric anatomy is particularly important, as it helps to explain why fabric acts the way it does when you stretch it.or pet the fur. These terms come up a lot in sewing patterns so it helps to get acquainted with them so you don't get bogged down by lingo.
The cutting tips section below might differ depending on your tastes, but the general idea still stands :) The paper pattern serves as a template (either with or without seam allowance). You can use this to cut through your fabric (or trace onto your fabric). And you can cut two pieces at a time (for thin, stable fabric) to get instant mirror image pieces, or one at a time for thicker fabrics like fur. The important part is to respect the grain and stretch lines of your fabric if the pattern calls for it ;)

A thousand thank you for going over the basics for a beginner like myself!  I have purchased several of your patterns from your etsy shop and look forward to making something soon!
