Hi everyone! In case you might not have seen the announcement on my other social media, my Etsy shop is having an after-Thanksgiving sale all the way until Monday ♥

blackfriday2016-01

You can use coupon code BLK165OFF to get $5 off purchases of $20 or more
OR you can use coupon code BLK1615 to get 15% off any purchase if you have something smaller or larger planned :)

There are also a selection of new plushies and patterns that have just been added! Those are already discounted to celebrate the debut, so the coupons will add up to even more savings!
I hope everyone's holiday shopping is going well!

I always try to answer all questions I receive as thoroughly as I can, but I thought I would write up a FAQ to really get in depth tell people everything I know :) I'll try to keep this updated as things change, so feel free to posit more questions! ♥

Where do you get your fabrics?

Lots of places! So let me break it down for you:

PLUSH FABRICS:

JoAnn Fabrics – If I’m making something simple I’m fine with getting their Blizzard Fleece or Anti-pill fleece. I also like their Ultra Fluffy Fabric. It’s like a cross between fleece and minky – a little thicker and stretchier but very soft. I think it’s great for making pillows and larger stuffed animals.

Hancock Fabrics – Again, I like them for their Polar fleece and Anti-pill fleece.

Fabric.com – I go here for most of my minky needs. They have just about every color imaginable, there’s free shipping over orders of $35, and they have sales on the stuff a few times a year. I mostly get the basic minky, which is called Minky Cuddle 3. The ‘3’ indicates that the length of the fur is 3mm long.

I can also personally vouch for the printed minky selection – they’re very colorful and sew up just the same. Minky Rose Cuddle and Minky Crushed Cuddle are good if you want something with a longer pile. They don’t feel as thick because the fibers are longer, but they’re very soft and luxurious. Unfortunately they shed a bit. If you want regular minky with some texture, I like Minky Cuddle Dimple Dot and Minky Paisley Cuddle Embossed. Their Double-sided fleece is actually pretty identical to the Ultra Fluffy Fabric from Joann’s.

Fabric Empire – This has been my backup as of late for both fleece and minky. Their prices are a bit cheaper, but then they don’t offer free shipping – so it can be a toss-up sometimes. The same kinds of minky can be found under the same names mentioned at Fabric.com because…

Shannon Fabrics – Most minky comes from this company. Lots of other brands are trying to get in on the action (like Joann’s), but this is where it all started. Fabrics are sold by the bolt here, so if you’re really serious about plush making, you might consider this.

FABRICS FOR HATS AND HOODIES:

JoAnn Fabrics –I stick with their Blizzard Fleece or Anti-pill fleece. Always nice to buy online and take advantage of sales and free shipping.

Hancock Fabrics – I like them for their Polar fleece and Anti-pill fleece. Always nice to buy online and take advantage of sales and free shipping over $65.

Fabric.com – They have a pretty nice Anti-pill fleece selection of some unlikely colors. Occasional sales and free shipping over $35.

Fabric Empire – Occasionally I come across an unusual fleece color here I can’t find anywhere else. A few coupons can be found here and there, so that helps.

Your Fleece  – Another good backup shop. Will sometimes have coupons or free shipping offers, so stay vigilant and always Google :D

Online Fabric Store – This is where I get the faux suede for my aviator caps, specifically called Microsuede. Comes in loads of fun colors.

What sewing machine do you use? Any recommendations?

I currently use a Husqvarna Viking Emerald 116. I’ve been using it for over 6 years now and I still love it. It’s a mechanical machine that only does the basics, but it does them well.

I can also say that I started out using Singer machines, and although they have issues from time to time they’re not bad as a starter machine. Brother machines have not been as good to me over the years, though. So I lean more towards Singer than Brother in the low-range machine market. But really the biggest difference is getting to a dealer and trying one out for yourself.

Do you have an embroidery machine?

I do! I actually bought one a long time ago, a Singer Futura CE-100. It was the first in the Futura line, so it had some kinks, but I learned to work around them and I enjoyed the machine. At the time I realized most of the projects I wanted to do worked better with hand-guided machine applique (so I could get to hard-to-reach places). So my use of the machine sort of faded away. But I’m thinking I might get a new one soon, so I’ll try to keep this FAQ posted on that.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to announce that I'll be at Metrocon in Tampa, FL from June 11th-14th this weekend! You can find me in the vendors' room this time at booth E11 -- which is pretty close to the middle, just a bit back and to the left. There I'm going to have cosplay hoodies with both regular characters and some new designs! I'll also have loads of aviator caps and plushies as well ♥

With that in mind, right now my Etsy store is pretty much all sewing patterns xD but there are a few made-to-order hoodies available for purchase that I'll get working on after the weekend. Whatever's left over from the convention will be put right back in the shop in case you had your heart set on it ^w^ And of course I'll get started restocking as quickly as I can!

So if you're in the area I hope you'll be able to stop by and see me! Pester me a bunch and I'll give you some free stickers or something :B

Hello peoples!

I'm back, as promised, to announce that the aviator hats are back in my Etsy shop :D Thank you all so much for the suggestions made in my previous journal entry! With the time I had I was able to churn out a new ear design and two new side motif designs.

Like the last time I made these hats, I've got a group of sample hats that are already made which you are free to order for a lower price. Then I've got the custom options which are made-to-order, there you can choose a hat based on color and change up the ears and side motif at your leisure ^w^ The prices depend on the ear and headflap options you choose, since those take extra time and fabric to add. Of course you also have the option to order yours completely plain.

I've also put up made-to-order listings for some of my hoodie designs. I usually prefer to make the hoodies in batches so the process is streamlined and I can make them cheaper for you all, but I've got so many hoodie designs now that I just know I can't anticipate what people will want and in what sizes x3 I'll have these listings up for a limited time as I get ready for Metrocon. At a certain point, probably in 1-2 months, I'll need to focus entirely on Metrocon and I'll take the listings down until Metrocon has passed.

I don't know how many sales I might get, but if I can't keep up with the orders for whatever reason I'll also put the listings on pause until I catch up. I hate letting people down so I won't take on more than I can handle! So if you see your desired listing taken down, just be patient, or shoot me a message and I'll try to give you an approximate ETA of when it'll be back.

Thanks everyone for your continued support and input! It's loads of fun getting to hear what you have to say :D

Hello everyone!

I haven't been terribly active the past few months because I was both moving, and then working on books! However, the new year is fully in swing now and I'm designing some new projects as well as preparing for Metrocon in June.

To kick things off, I'm bringing back the steampunk aviator hats I sold last year! You know the ones ^-~

I've gotten a lot of messages asking when I would bring these back, so here's my alert to all of you to prepare yourselves!

This past Black Friday I was able to stock up on a bunch of new fabric. I tried to bring back a lot of the same colors as before, as well as some new ones. Right now I'm working on making some sample hats so you can see just what colors I was able to bring in. Of course you'll get to design your own custom hat if you want, with all the ear, headflap, color, and side motif options that I have to offer.

BUT I'm also open to hearing what you have to suggest!
Post in the comments here if there's some new option you'd like me to add to what's available!
For ears I offer: long rabbit ears, fox ears (with black tips), and cat ears
For side motifs I offer: compass, skull, gears, wings, and squid

I imagine I should have the listings ready to go sometime next week, but if you stay tuned here I'll be posting about it as soon as they're ready.

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you are all enjoying this year of 2015 :3 I have a few new updates to touch base on, but aside from that I'm just enjoying this fresh start :D

As some of you might know, on my website I have a little feature called The Monthly Crafting Challenge. I give away free sewing patterns as a way to encourage people to sign up for email updates to my blog. Every month a new pattern is available to earn, and if you've already signed up for updates then you just sew up something from my site or books and share it with me instead. 2013 had a group of 12 sushi plushies, 2014 was a group of 12 Japanese snack foods, and 2015 has a whole new theme :D

Punny food animals! So for January if you send me photos of your creations I'll send you the pattern for this Cinnabunny plush ^-^ The rest of the year will have similar items, food/animal combinations with a silly pun :B

As far as other projects I'm up to, I've been asked to write another craft book! I can't divulge all the details just yet, but it does mean I'm not going to be able to update with new personal projectsas often for a little while x_x So it's both good news and bad news.

I'll let you all know about any new updates in the coming weeks and months though!

I have a few things going on this month that might interest you all, first of which is a 10% of coupon to my Etsy store! Just use code HOLIDAY2014 on any purchase from now until December 18th -- which is the latest you can order from me to ensure you get Christmas delivery within the United States :D

As you can see I've been making loads of new plushies to populate the store, so I hope you'll give them a look!

And up last is the final month of my 2014 Monthly Crafting Challenge. I'm both so sad to see it go but also so excited for next year! If you sigh up for email updates to my blog or send me photos of your finished projects I'll send this free sewing pattern your way!

Hi everyone!

I'm so glad it's October! That last Florida summer was killing me x_x

Anyway, I have a small handful of things to touch on to get this month started :D

First off, I just recently had another giveaway thanks to you guys! I reached a pageview milestone and gave away a Nyan Cat quilt! Thank you so much to everyone that entered! If you missed the giveaway this time around, I hope you'll be there to catch the next one when I reach another milestone. Here's how my stats look:

75% progress bar - purple by AngelLale87 DeviantArt pageviews: 125,180/150,000 = 83%
90% progress bar - star blue by AngelLale87 DeviantArt watchers: 4,399/5,000 = 88%
75% progress bar - purple by AngelLale87 Facebook likes: 1,457/2,000 = 73%
75% progress bar - purple by AngelLale87 Tumblr followers: 758/1,000 = 76%
75% progress bar - purple by AngelLale87 Wordpress followers: 1,385/2,000 = 69%

I'm guessing that DeviantArt watchers will be my next kiriban, but it's hard to say! Either way, the faster those numbers go up the faster I'll hold another giveaway :D

:star: :star: :star:

Also, like with other months, I'm continuing my little Monthly Crafting Challenge. This is where if you sign up for email updates to my blog or send me photos of  projects you've made with my patterns I'll send you free plush patterns in return ^-^

This month I'm giving away the pattern for this little plush shrimp tempura:

Tempura Shrimp Plush by SewDesuNe

:star: :star: :star:

Nextly, I have a new book that's been released! It's all about duct tape projects, and includes 20 step-by-step projects and an idea gallery with 30+ more. It covers a lot of classic projects with a twist, as well as some you might not have expected, and a good handful of projects on working with washi tape, masking tape, and frog tape. I hope you'll give it a look if you think it would interest you!

:star: :star: :star:

And lastly, I have an update to my Etsy store! I'm working through my stash of minky fabrics and that means plushies! I'm going color by color and first up is lime green :D I've made a collection of Puff Monster plushies as a collaboration with my good friend Bianca Roman-Stumpff, and some original designs as well. Check them out on Etsy if you're a fellow plush lover!

If life doesn't stop me, I'll be coming right back with more plushies in different colors -- next up is olive green and orange!

Hi everyone out there!

I can't believe it's already August! I have a few new things to update you all with so I thought I'd get it out there :D

Metrocon went fantastically ^0^ I had a great time seeing fans and fellow artists at the con. Even though I didn't have as much stock as I usually do, it was amazing getting to see your reactions to my creations. I hope I can outdo myself next year!

To my chagrin, I haven't been as active art-wise this year as I wished to be, but it's all been for good cause, I swear! Since late last year I've been writing several books for my publisher, Fox Chapel Publishing. I told you all about Bling it Up! already, but I have quite a few more coming out in the next few months, so I'll let you know about them in the future :D With most of that out of the way, I'm now focusing on getting my blog to look less vacant too. I hope to be back with more posts about crazy new things I've made in the coming weeks!

The next update I have is about my next kiriban celebration! Thanks to you guys, I'm really close to a nice pageview milestone :D Once I hit it I'll be holding another giveaway for another crazy item like the one I held 2 months ago. Here's what the figures look like:

90% progress bar - star blue by AngelLale87 DeviantArt pageviews: 115,666/123,456 = 94%
90% progress bar - star blue by AngelLale87 DeviantArt watchers: 4,286/5,000 = 86%
75% progress bar - purple by AngelLale87 Facebook likes: 1,405/2,000 = 70%
75% progress bar - purple by AngelLale87 Tumblr followers: 752/1,000 = 75%
60% progress bar - purple by AngelLale87 Wordpress followers: 1,288/2,000 = 64%

And the last update I have concerns the Monthly Crafting Challenge I've got going on at my blog. If you sign up for email updates to my blog during this month, I'll send a free sewing pattern your way, namely this little guy:

Square Watermelon Plush by SewDesuNe

You can also earn patterns by sending me photos of your finished creations. So if you're interested in cute plush patterns I hope you'll give it a try! For August it's this little square watermelon plush with matching basket.

Hopefully if nothing else gets in my way you'll be seeing more updates from me soon! >w<

Hello everyone!

In just a little over 24 hours I'll be heading off to Metrocon in Tampa, Florida until Sunday, July 13th! As always, I hope that I get to see some of you there! I'll be selling my typical cosplay hats and hoodies, but I'll also have copies of my books for you to flip through as well as fukubukuro-style mystery grab bags filled with little odds and ends I make from my leftover fabric and supplies.

I hope you'll stop by the convention if you're in the Tampa area! :la: It's downtown at the Tampa Convention Center and you don't need to buy a pass to visit the artist alley, where I'll be at booth A8. Just travel the back row along the railing and you'll be sure to find me ♥

So if you see me, be sure to say hello! I'll give you free stickers or something >w<

Hi everyone! I just wanted to put up a reminder that today is the last day to use the 15% off coupon I gave out in response to the custom aviator cap listings I put up:

As you can see, because of your extreme awesomeness, I've sold practically every aviator cap I made! And was even able to make some patchwork hats with the scraps ^0^
This coupon is good for the entire store, though, so if you see any other little item you want, now would be the time to get it! Not only because the coupon is about to expire, but because I'll be putting my store on vacation on Monday, July 7th, in order to prep for Metrocon from July 11th-13th. [This is just for physical items; my downloadable .pdf patterns will still be available all weekend.] Either way, consider this a pre-Metrocon reminder as well :3
I hope to see some of you at the convention! I'll be in Artist Alley, booth A8! (against the railing)
First off, I want to thank everyone who entered my latest giveaway! It was the most successful giveaway I've held so far, with over 2200 entries -- more than 3 times as many as the last largest giveaway I've held! You all are so amazing and sweet! ;A;

Custom Steampunk Cap Giveaway [Closed] by SewDesuNe

The winners have been chosen and I'm currently working with them to design their hats ^-^ Congratulations to :iconkatwynn: and :iconbreezepleeze: for being the two winners!

~

With that all out of the way, I can now offer up the rest of the hats to you for purchase! I have a limited number of colors of suede in limited quantities, so on my Etsy you'll find listings for the sample hats (which are cheaper and ready-to-ship) that I made to showcase the different suede colors and custom hats sorted by outer fabric color.
Because Etsy only allows two variations per listing, you'll find there are only options to choose your ear and headflap combo and side motif, though if you want to customize even more (like lining or paint colors), you'll just need to contact me first to sort out the details. The turnaround time for the caps is listed as 2 weeks, which is a big overestimation, but that's only as an insurance policy in case people buy out ALL the hats at once. Not likely, but I thought I should be safe :B

As my way of saying thanks to all of you for participating in my giveaway and helping me get to 100k+ pageviews and 4k+ watchers, please use this coupon if you get yourself a hat!

The coupon code is good for the entire store, but the suede I have in stock is limited, so if you had your eye on an aviator cap I encourage you to buy it soon! This coupon is good until the end of the month, so you have a few weeks to take action ^-^

The number of entries are already more than 3 times larger than my last biggest giveaway for a BMO plush! :la: You guys are so amazingly supportive and awesome!

There are a few things to keep in mind since today is the day of the drawing ♥
:bulletred: Entries will be accepted up until 10pm EST TONIGHT!
:bulletgreen: At that time I will contact TWO winners via DeviantArt note (so please do keep an eye on your notes ♥)
:bulletpurple: The winner will have 48 hours to respond to my note (June 11th, at 10pm EST) to accept their prize
:bulletred: After the winner has been confirmed, I'll announce it to everyone here
:bulletgreen: Meanwhile, the winners and I will hammer out what kind of hats they want
:bulletpurple: The sooner you respond to my note, the sooner you get your prize! ^-~
:bulletred: Once the winners choose the hats they want, I'll be listing what's left on my Etsy store so the rest of you can purchase! I'll keep you all posted about this part as it comes :)

Hello my awesome followers!

I realize I'm updating for May really late in the game, but there was a reason behind it! I wanted to announce the launch of my latest book called Bling it Up! It's a short little 48-page booklet about Decoden, which I'm sure most of you know is the art of covering your prized possessions in fluffy frosting(-like adhesive), rhinestones, and adorable charms. It's finally taking off in the big name craft stores, especially since Mod Podge is releasing a new whippy adhesive called Collage Clay that's non-toxic and much less messy than silicone.

Bling it Up!

At 48 pages, the book is really small, but it's also very inexpensive at ~$8. It more than earns its keep because it's filled with 16 step-by-step projects ranging from super frosted cell phone cases to classy wearable items like hats and sunglasses. It also has over a dozen ideas for variations and other projects to get your creative juices flowing. Not only that, but the Getting Started section provides the lowdown on how to assemble frosting decoden, how to glue rhinestones, and how to make an assortment of clay charms for decorating. I hope you'll pardon me gushing so much over the book :D I just had so much fun making it! I hope you'll give it a look if you're just trying out decoden or need some inspiration!

Bling it Up!
Bling it Up!
Bling it Up!

The next item I want to let you all know about is how close I am to my next giveaway kiriban! I'm so painfully close to 100k pageviews here, and I want to celebrate with another awesome giveaway ♥ Here's how close I am to all of my milestone numbers:

90% progress bar - star blue by AngelLale87 DeviantArt watchers: 3.624/4,000 = 91%

~~~
And the last thing I have an update with is the new pattern I'm giving away for the Monthly Crafting Challenge on my blog ^-^ This is again the thing where you sign up for email updates and get a free pattern in exchange. To earn more patterns after the first you send me photos of your finished sewings! The free pattern for May is a plush Usagi Manju ^0^ It's a rabbit shaped dumpling confection that's popular for moon viewing festivals, during the year of the rabbit, or just during spring time. Makes me feel happy for the season just looking at it ♥
If you're interested in joining in, check out the main challenge page or the FAQ. It's super easy and you get a new free pattern every month when you participate and send me photos of your projects!
So thank you to everyone that's read this far >w< I'm glad I'm finally able to divulge some of the things I've been working on while I've been a little inactive. Hopefully soon you'll get to see even more ^0^
This month also introduces the next leg of my Monthly Crafting Challenge. It's a little challenge I have up on my blog where you get a free sewing pattern when you sign up for email updates or send me photos of your finished projects! The free pattern for this month is a plush Dango (skewered dumpling).
That's pretty much all I have to share for now, but rest assured that I am getting incredibly close to being caught up with some other work, so I should have more updates to share in the next month or so. Hopefully life doesn't come knock me on my butt too badly in the meantime, but you should be hearing more from me very soon!
Hello everyone!
I just wanted to do another quick update now that March has started :D February flew by like crazy for me x_x I've been completely booked, work-wise, but hopefully that should start to slow down in the next few months. Then I can let you all know what I've been working on and also fill you in on what I'll be doing for Metrocon in July!
Being the new month and all, I've updated my Monthly Crafting Challenge. It's a little challenge I have up on my blog where you get a free sewing pattern when you sign up for email updates or send me photos of your finished projects! The free pattern for this month is a plush Nikuman (meat bun).
Whoa XD another late update this month!
As usual, I'm super busy with other freelance work so that's slowed me down a bit -- hence the lack of updates. But that hasn't stopped me from continuing my Monthly Crafting Challenge. When you sign up for email updates to my blog in February you'll get a free sewing pattern for this plush okonomiyaki!
I've got to continue chugging along xD but I'll be sure to update periodically about the crafting challenge and any giveaways that are coming up!
